Court to Sentence Israeli ex-min

Israeli Court will sentence former Shas minister Shlomo Benizri on Sunday.  Benizri was convicted of receiving bribes from contractor Moshe Sela, of violating the public trust, and of interfering with a criminal investigation.

The charges related to a deal between Benizri and Sela during Benizri’s term as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare.  Benizri reportedly appointed some of Sela’s associates to senior positions and provided Sela with information regarding regulations on foreign workers.  Prosecutors have asked the court to sentence Benizri to seven years in prison.
