UNSC fails to condemn Gaza massacre
The UN Security Council on Sunday urged Zionist regime and Palestinian activists to cease all violence in Gaza.
"Members of the Security Council are deeply concerned about the loss of civilian life in southern Gaza and condemn the escalation of violence," the council said in a statement read by Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, the council's current president.
The statement was agreed at a 5-hour emergency meeting of the Security Council called to discuss an upsurge in Israeli-Palestinian fighting.
The emergency meeting was called by Security Council member Libya on behalf of the Arab League and at the request of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Libyan delegation circulated a draft resolution to council members condemning the Zionist regime.
The Security Council will come back to the Libyan draft resolution next week after the 14 other council members have had a chance to make comments and propose changes.
