Anti-siege committee appeals to UN

The Popular Committee Against the Siege called for the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Sir John Holmes, to put pressure on Zionist regime to lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

The Committee sent a letter on Friday to Holmes, who is currently visiting the region, describing the consequences of the closure and its effects on the people of Gaza.

They called for the United Nations and the international community to work to lift the siege and rescue the sector, as well as supplying the necessary assistance and aid for the sector.

"The siege has no mercy on anyone sick or wounded, or the industrial, commercial and agricultural sectors. It has paralyzed life dramatically, particularly with electricity blackouts and reduced fuel supplies," the letter stated.
