A spokesman for the Palestinian factions stated that the meeting that took place on Wednesday evening at the office of Yehya Sinwar, head of the Hamas Movement in Gaza, was held to save the reconciliation process from collapse.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all national and Islamic factions, deputy premier Ziyad Abu Amr, and Egyptian security officials.

Senior Palestinian People’s Party official Talaat al-Safadi told a news conference held following the meeting that the government must carry out its duties towards the population in Gaza and reconsider all measures taken against them.

Safadi said that an extensive discussion took place during the meeting in the presence of members of the Egyptian security delegation, who played an important role in calming the atmosphere and getting the reconciliation process back on track.
