Iran-based Society in Defense of the Palestinian Nation (SDPN) staged a panel discussion on the role of mosques in promoting the regional resistance and Islamic awakening on Tuesday.
Early in the meeting, SDPN founding member Hojjatoleslam Rahimian said the holy Koran considers mosques as the front of purity and pure individuals.
He said mosques have played a major role in the course of history in advancing the Muslim revolutionary cause, adding Imam Khomeini founded his movement on mosque while he had no party or association.
Head of the board of directors of Qods News Agency (Qodsna) added that 97 percent of Iranian martyrs used to frequent mosques.
Rahimian said the lifestyle and government of the hidden Imam Mahdi (A.J.) is bound with mosques as he “will reappear from Kaaba, pray in the al-Aqsa mosque and establish his government in the Kufa mosque.”
He added that the Jamkaran mosque close to Qom will also play a role in advancing the cause of the hidden Imam.
He then touched on the role of the al-Aqsa mosque in Palestine and said today the mosque has turned into a symbol of the Palestinian issue.
“The Palestinian issue too has turned into a factor for distinguishing good and bad, including in Iran … The line of Imam Khomeini is bound with the fight for the liberation of Palestine,” he said.
The panel discussion was held on the anniversary of an arson attack by Zionist Israelis on the holy al-Aqsa mosque in the occupied al-Quds (‘Jerusalem’) in 1969.
The meeting also heard from Islamic Jihad movement’s representative in Tehran, Naser Abu Sharif who spoke on the role of the Palestinian community in safeguarding the first Muslim qibla in the occupied al-Quds.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque was burnt on August 21, 1969, by Israeli-Australian extremist, Michael Rohan, who set the mosque ablaze and the fires totally consumed the historic Salah Ed-Deen Bench, and the southeastern roof of the mosque.
1500 square/meters of the total 4400 square/meters of the mosque were burnt.
