Prominent religious figures in occupied al-Quds ('Jerusalem') have called for rejecting and boycotting the Israeli measures that created a new status quo at the Aqsa Mosque, especially the metal detectors (security archways) deployed at its entrances.

In a statement on Monday, the religious figures called on the Muslim worshipers to refuse to pass through the security gates in order to enter or leave the Aqsa Mosque, according to PIC.

They also urged the Muslims to continue performing their prayers at the Mosque’s gates and entrances and on the Old City’s roads until the Israeli occupation authority rescind all its measures at the Islamic holy site and removed the metal detectors.

The joint statement was released by Sheikh Mohamed Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, head of the Higher Islamic Commission, and Sheikh Abdul-Adheem Salhab, head of the Islamic Awqaf Council.
