Council: Al-Buraq Wall inseparable part of al-Aqsa

The announcement came in response to Jibril Rajoub's offer that Palestinians may keep the al-Aqsa Mosque and in return al-Buraq Wall would be under Israeli sovereignty

The Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem affirmed on Sunday that al-Buraq Wall (Western Wall) is for Muslims only.

This came in response to false claims by some Hebrew media outlets that the Jews have a right to al-Buraq Wall and that it must remain under Jewish sovereignty.

The Council said in a statement that such statements and allegations are aimed at falsifying the historical facts associated with al-Buraq Wall, adding that al-Aqsa Mosque, including al-Buraq Wall which is one of its main walls, is part of Muslims creed.

It noted that the League of Nations acknowledged that fact back in 1930 saying that al-Buraq Wall is a historical and cultural Islamic landmark that has nothing to do with non-Muslims.

It urged the Palestinians to visit al-Aqsa Mosque regularly especially in the holy month of Ramadan in view of the dangers threatening it.

Member of the Fatah Central Committee, Jibril Rajoub, said in an interview with a Hebrew TV channel on Saturday that "al-Aqsa Mosque would be in the hands of the Palestinians in any future agreement and in return al-Buraq Wall would be under Israeli sovereignty".

Hamas Movement denounced Rajoub's remarks and considered them "a national crime and an offense to the Palestinian people and holy sites".
