Turnout put at 42mn; Iranians created epic

42 million Iranians out of 56 eligible have voted in the 12th presidential elections setting an epic turnout, Iranian Interior Ministry announced.

The elections was covered by scores of foreign news agecies.

Among Iraqi media, Al Iraqiya Broadcasting Television Network focusing on election in Iran, releasing reports and holding round tables with the attendance of Iranian and Iraqi experts was monitoring Iran’s elections.

Meanwhile, the New York Times Newspaper reporter in a Friday twitter message said “The longest lines I have ever seen in 15 years of reporting here. This is Husseiniye Ershad where most foreign reporters and state TV are.”

The Reuters News Agency on Friday pointed to Iran’s elections saying, “Millions of Iranians joined long queues to vote on Friday, an early sign of strong turnout in an unexpectedly tight presidential election that could determine the future of the country.”

In the meantime, American CBS Channel reporter told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that due to the importance of the current elections, Iranians queued up to vote.

Among many Turkish media that discussed elections in Iran Anadolu News Agency also focused on elections reporting that over 56 million people will vote today in Iran.

The American Senior International Correspondent of CNN News Agency Frederik Pleitgen also said in his twitter message “Good morning Tehran! It is election day.”

France 24 Media Company also referred to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as calling Iranian people for massive turnout.

Like various other foreign media, Chinese News Agency Xinhua also monitored Iran’s elections from the very early moments.

Reporters of some 44 news agencies, 144 radio and TV channels, 71 newspapers and journals, 14 institutions from Azerbaijan, Albania, Austria, Spain, Australia, Slovenia, Afghanistan, Germany, UAE, US, England, Italy, Bahrain, Belgium, Pakistan, Turkey, China, Denmark, Russia, Romania, Japan, Syria, Sweden, Switzerland, Iraq, Oman, France, Palestine, Qatar, South Korea, North Korea, Canada, Colombia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Poland, Luxemburg, Egypt, Norway, Vietnam, the Netherlands and India covered Iran’s elections.

In addition to the 12th presidential election and the fifth city and village councils election, by-election is also being held in the cities of Isfahan (in Isfahan province), Maragheh, Ahar, Heris (in East Azarbaijan province), Ajabshir, Bastak, Parsian and Bandar Lengeh (in Hormuzgan province) to elect representatives for four vacant parliament seats.
