Scud accusations as a fresh scheme against regional resistance
Sirus Shirzad (Qodsna): The Zionist regime and the US in a latest political project against the regional resistance force have accused Syria of arming the Lebanese Hezbollah with Scud ballistic missiles.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in a quick reaction denounced the claims as a propaganda project aimed at diverting public opinions from the range of aggressions committed by the Zionist regime across the Palestinian territories.
Muallem also warned that the regime and its backer, the US, were seeking to set the stage for a new war in the region.
In Lebanon, Premier Saad Hariri likened the Scud allegations to the US scenario of Iraqi WMD stockpiles which the country fabricated to justify its 2005 invasion of the country.
President Michel Suleiman too joined Hariri in denouncing the allegations, calling it shear lies, aimed to provide excuse for launching a new war on Lebanon and Syria.
On the Hezbollah side, a major position was taken by senior official Ghaleb Abu Zainab who affirmed that the Lebanese Islamic Resistance Movement does not need Scud missiles to defend Lebanon.
Abu Zainab told NBN television on Friday that Hezbollah possesses arms that can reach deep into Israel, adding that the movement is completely ready to confront the fabricated state.
Abu Zainab highlighted the Israeli smokescreen idea, saying the US and Israel were using their accusations of the Scud transfer to attempt to divert attention away from the regime's violations in the Palestinian territories.
The denouncements were also reverberated on the Egyptian side with Foreign Minister Ahmad Abulgheit calling the claims as big lie and ridiculous.
As an insider however, Zionist daily Haaretz poured cold water on the claims, saying that Scud missiles have little operation use for Hezbollah as the movement possesses missiles with more precision than the Russian made technology.
The author believes that the accusations have come as a political maneuver aimed at several malicious goals. The US and the Zionist regime for one thing seek to widen regional tension as a justification for their possible future attacks. They also seek to divert public opinion and media from a strain in ties between the Zionist regime and the United States.
The scud allegations may also seek to strain ties between Damascus and Washington notably after the latter introduced a new ambassador to the accused.
A twin aim of the project could be to fire a smokescreen before an Israeli judazation scheme.
The timing of the accusations would push one more thing to mind; a scenario to undermine a Tehran conference on nuclear disarmament which was held last week and produced a final statement which had a sharp notice for NPT-wary Israel.
