On Russia's recognition of Quds as Israeli embassy

Qods News Agency (Qodsna), Mehdi Zand: 

The Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement has recognized the western part of the occupied al-Quds (‘Jerusalem’) as the capital of Israel.

The statement is not surprising as Russia has already recognized the UN’s Two-State Solution that demands the establishment of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with the eastern part of the occupied city as its capital.

The statement also considers the eastern part of the occupied city as the capital of a Palestinian state

Russia however is only the second in line after the US to recognize the western part as Israel capital.

The statement’s tone may suggest that Russia has conditioned its recognition of western al-Qyds as Israeli capital to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the eastern al-Quds. Israel however would reap most fruits form the statement by pushing the rest of western states to follow the suit on the one hand without giving any attention to the second part of the statement that covers Palestinian demands.

The statement thus would provide some opportunity for Israel while proving perilous for the Palestinians as it would threaten the al-Quds as the top symbol of Palestinian identity.
