Aleppo victory left major impact on regional equation

An Iranian expert in regional affairs says the liberation of Aleppo will leave a major impact on the regional equation with Israel sustaining the largest negative share.

Ahmad Zarean told a panel debate in pro-resistance Neda tnink tank in Tehran that Syria has been on the Israeli security agenda, adding that Israel targeted Syria as an Iran ally and a link for the regional resistance.

“With a regime change in Syria, Israel would have had a secure periphery while Iran would suffer insecurity in its periphery,” Zarean said, adding that Israel sought a synergy with Iran’s neighbors including Turkey and Saudi in the strategy.

The expert also rejected the idea that Iran lacks the potential of strategic action. “Rather Iran serves as a powerful player with major strategic offensive potential,” he said.

Zarean considered the regional crises as strategic reactions to Iran’s strategic actions following the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.
