Israeli spies blamed for assassination of Hamas drone chief
A spy ring sent by Mossad, Israel’s foreign spy service, assassinated a senior Hamas expert in Tunisia, the anti-occupation movement said.
Mohammed al-Zawahri was shot at least six times in his car in the southern Tunisian city of Sfax. Pictures from the scene showed his blue Volkswagen parked in the driveway of his house with its windows shattered.
Mr Zawahri was a Tunisian engineer who specialised in drones and had worked with the military wing of Hamas in Gaza.
Israeli officials refused to comment on claims that Mossad was responsible but the killing joins a long list of suspected assassinations by the spy agency across the Middle East.
The former Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki said that Mohamed Zouari’s assassination last Thursday is “a political crime par excellence.”
Speaking to Quds Press, Marzouki affirmed that the Tunisian pro-Qassam scientist Mohamed Zouari’s assassination is a serious crime that violates the Tunisian sovereignty.
"We are still waiting for the Tunisian government’s response to this humanitarian and political crime", according to his statement.
Earlier on Sunday, the Tunisian government vowed to keep tabs on a probe recently launched into Zouari’s assassination.
