Possible negative impact of Trump’s election for Israel
Palestinian political expert, Helmi Moussa says despite the Israeli rightists’ assertions that Donald Trump’s election to the US presidency bodes well for Israel, realities on the ground shows that Trump may also threaten the Israeli strategic interests.
Moussa wrote in the Palestinian Today website that Trump’s offer of help to Israel were nothing more than those offered by his predecessors.
The analyst especially singled out Trumps offer to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem (the occupied al-Quds), noting however that even then the two-state solution would disappear and other problems would rise that would spoil the Israeli dream to set up a Jewish state.
Israeli also, the analyst says, consider their ties with the EU as significant and for the same reason would avoid any move that threatens the relations despite their strong relations with the US.
Moussa also notes that American Jews as the key supporters of Israel usually consider Trump as enemy, noting his growing up in an anti-Jewish ambience.
The analyst said the US Jews are concerned about Trump’s racist views and prefer to see an individual in the White House who may boost the liberalist environment for them.
Also certain Israeli circles, the analyst says, have warned that Trump’s vows are election time campaign, designed to collect the largest number of votes in the presidential race.
