EU to sue Israel over West Bank damages

The European Union forum for the Middle East encourages states to seek compensation from Israel for its accelerated demolition of donated humanitarian structures in the occupied West Bank.

The European Union (EU) forum responsible for Middle East affairs recommended that member states request compensation from Israel for its demolition of humanitarian buildings and infrastructure projects financed by them in Area C of the West Bank, Haaretz reports.

The resolution was approved at a meeting of the EU’s Mashreq/Maghreb Working Party, which is comprised of representatives from all 28 member states.

Though the decision is non-binding, it inspired a flurry of talks between Israeli EU representative Lars Faaborg-Andersen and EU ambassadors, as well as outcry from Israel's foreign ministry.
