Swedes award dissident Israeli journalist

Gideon Levy, an Israeli journalist known for delegitimizing the Israeli army's actions, has been awarded the Olof Palme Prize of 2015 worth $75,000.

Levy, who constantly opposes the Israeli government's policies in the occupied West Bank, received the prize together with Palestinian pastor Mitri Raheb, one of the co-authors of the 2009 Kairos Palestine document, which calls for Christians worldwide to help fight the Israeli occupation.

The Swedish prize committee said that both recipients offer “a glimmer of hope to a conflict that too long has plagued and continues to plague millions of people and affects world peace.”

The award comes after Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström said Israel was executing without trial Palestinians who carry out anti-occupation operations.
