Specter of fear as code red sirens blare into night across Israel

Code Red sirens blared across southern and central Israel on Wednesday night, from Ashkelon to Gan Yavne, as Palestinian combatants in Gaza resumed their rocket-launching activities.

One rocket exploded in open space in Netivot.

15 rockets were fired at Israel in a 15-minute span of time late Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Hamas claimed responsibility for rocket fire on Dimona, saying their target was the city's nuclear reactor.

The much-touted Iron Dome missile defense battery intercepted only one rocket.

Sirens sounded in Holon, Bat Yam, Rishon LeZion, as Iron Dome intercepts new round of rocket fire from Gaza over the skies of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.

At least two rockets fell north of Zikhron Ya'akov, just 37 km south of Haifa, in what was the longest reaching rocket attack by the Palestinians.

Earlier in the morning, five rockets were fired at the Tel Aviv metropolitan area in the morning.

Throughout the day rockets rained on southern Israel.

According to the Israeli army, more than 225 rockets were fired at Israel since late Monday night.

Only 40 of those rockets were intercepted by Israel's 'advanced' Iron Dome missile interception system.
