Dozens urge release of anti-Prawer protesters

Scores of Palestinians protested in front of an Israeli court in Bersheba against the detention of demonstrators two weeks after they took part in a protest against the now-suspended apartheid Prawer Bill.

The protesters demandws the immediate release of those detained.

Israel suspended the controversial draft law that aimed to relocate thousands of Bedouin residents of the Negev desert in a bid to scrap their aboriginal, rooted identity.

Benny Begin, tasked with implementing the so-called Prawer Plan, said he had recommended to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "end the debate" on the Apartheid legislation in the reigme's parliament.

The call to scrap the plan came after dozens of protests were staged across the world, including in Palestine against the plan.

The bill, which would have seen the demolition of some 40 unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev and the relocation of between 30,000 and 40,000 people, passed a preliminary ministerial vote in January.

But it faced intense objection from members of the parliament.
