Haifa Official Suspected in Bribery Case

A senior official from Israeli Transportation Ministry in Haifa was arrested on Tuesday for alleged corruption.  The official is accused of taking bribes from cab drivers and station managers.

In exchange, police say, the official provided certain drivers and companies with government tenders and assisted them in getting permission to provide service to more areas.

Israeli Police suspect that the man received tens of thousands of shekels in bribe money.  His arrest has been extended until Sunday.
