Israeli man beat wife with hammer

A 58-year-old Israeli man early Monday morning tried to kill his 47-year-old wife by striking her with a hammer.

According to Haaretz, the woman is in stable condition at Tel Aviv's Ichilov hospital. Her husband, who also allegedly attempted to stab her to death, is scheduled to appear in court.

The incident occurred around midnight.

Adverse effects of intensifying social and economic problmes have gripped the Israeli society with many feeling suicidal or turning to drugs.
