Poll: Israel justice system corrupt

A majority of Israelis believe their civil justice system is corrupt mostly because of the unchecked supreme court's authority, a poll says.

The poll, released Wednesday, shows that 54 percent of Israelis feel there is corruption in Israel's justice system, while 13 percent said there is no corruption.

Asked about the main reasons for the problems with the justice system, 27 percent cited the Supreme Court's involvement in matters its authority did not previously govern.

On the other hand, 23 percent of the respondents said that attempts by Kadima-appointed justice minister Daniel Friedmann and other ministers to restrict the Supreme Court are the source of the problems.

Thirty-seven percent believe that the authority of the Supreme Court should indeed be limited.

The survey was carried out by Market Watch for a conference marking 60 years of the Zionist regime jurisprudence.
