IRI Envoy in Syria: Iran's success in nuclear field surprises int'l Zionism

Iran's success in the field of peaceful nuclear technology was one of the major achievements of the Islamic system which surprised Western states and international Zionism, a senior Iranian official said Sunday evening.

The Supreme Leader's representative in Syria, Ayatollah Mojtaba Hosseini, made the remarks in a conference on Iran's peaceful nuclear program held in the Syrian capital.

"Iran has succeeded to develop peaceful nuclear technology relying on its indigenous manpower," he said.

He referred to the civilian nature of Iran's nuclear activities saying, "Iran is not to produce atomic bomb as production of weapons of mass destruction is forbidden in Islam."

Ayatollah Hosseini stressed that one of the "basic principles of Islam is to not violate the rights of others."

He noted that Tehran would not allow others to attack the country and would give a harsh response to any aggression.

Ayatollah Hosseini added that Iran's nuclear facilities "are completely protected and well-fortified in the face of threats."
