Palestinians form longest human chain

Over 50 thousands of Palestinians linked arms, forming a human chain stretching the length of the Gaza Strip in a demonstration organized by the Popular Committee Against the Siege of the Gaza Strip on Monday morning.

The route of rally stretched along Gaza's border with the Zionist settled areas of the 1948 occupied Palestine, 41 kilometers from Rafah, at the southern end of the Strip, to Beit Hanoun in the north.

Rami Abdo, the spokesperson of the Popular Committee said in a statement that the protest is continuation of the Committee's activities to reject the Israeli-imposed siege.

Several national and popular organizations as well as schools, universities and government ministries were taking part in the human chain.

"We have been stunned by the large number of people who joined the protest," he added.

He stressed that the human chain was a peaceful action aimed at visually representing the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the Israeli forces tightened security measures around the Gaza Strip, deploying 6,500 troops along the border.
