Dikhter: Aqsa won’t be like Mecca, Medina
Former Israeli spy chief says it would not allow the Muslim holy sites in the occupied al-Qusd (‘Jerusalem’) to remain the possession of Muslims like the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, according to Times of Israel.
He was reacting to Jordan King Abdullah II who Earlier Monday said his country would continue to defend the al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city from what “repeated storming by extremist Jews”, and by opposing attempts “to divide the al-Aqsa Mosque temporally or spatially.”
“Recently there is an intensifying trend called ‘the defense of al-Aqsa.’ This defense has greatly widened from the mosque in the southern portion of the Temple Mount; now they are talking about the entire area of the Temple Mount. Israel will not lend a hand to this,” Avi Dichter, a former head of the Shin Bet security agency, however told Israel Radio.
“The thought that they will do to the Temple Mount what has been done in Saudi Arabia, where it has been decreed that the holy cities of Islam — Mecca and Medina — are just for Muslims,” he said, calling the idea “twisted.”
