Peace process does not exist in realty

Dr. Abdussattar Qassem, lecturer of political science at an-Najah National University, played down the importance of betting on the American efforts to revive the stalled peace process between Palestinians and Israelis.

Talking to Quds Press, Qassem attributed his desperation of the American role in making a real difference in the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations to the absence of equal powers between both sides.

“The peace process does not exist in reality as the Palestinian side is the receiving passive party and the American-Israeli side is the party with full power. Given that, the matter does not exceed the level of useless talks,” Qassem said.

Qassem opined that the Palestinian Authority is incapable of taking serious decisions about Palestinian national interests because it seeks the satisfaction of America and Israel as being the source of its funds in addition to European states.

The U.S. minister of foreign affairs John Kerry meets on Sunday in Jordan’s capital, Amman, with the PA head Mahmoud Abbas within the American efforts aimed at reviving the moribund 'peace' process, according to the PIC.
