AIPAC lauds US decision to bar entry to Iranian UN nominee

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee lauded on Friday US President Barack Obama's decision to deny a visa to an Iranian official Tehran had selected as its ambassador to the United Nations.

The leading pro-Israel lobby in America laud the US government for rejecting Iran's selection to the post of Hamid Abutalebi, who has been opposed for his part in the capture of the US espionage center (so-called embassy) in Tehran in 1979.

On Friday, the White House announced that it would not issue a visa to Abutalebi, effectively barring him from taking up the position as Iran's ambassador to the UN.

In 1979, a large group of Iranian students, angered by the US intervention in the Iranian internal affairs attacked the US embassy only to find it was a virtual center of espionage. They had already suspected that the US government during the Iranian revolution in 1970s was using its embassy as a center for spying and conspiring against the revolutionaries. A trove of documents recovered from the center following its capture revelaed many proofs to the claim. The documents have published in dozens of titles.
