Iran: Sarkozy groveling to US, Israel

Iran says the French president's remarks, claiming Tehran's missiles pose a threat to Europe, will not influence the public opinion.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said such claims were only made to win favor with Washington, show support for Israeli propaganda and scare regional states into buying arms.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of a nuclear submarine on Friday, Sarkozy voiced his concern over Iran 'increasing the range of its missiles while serious suspicions weigh on its nuclear program.'

The French president went on to say that Tehran's military might puts European security at stake.

The Iranian spokesman dismissed Sarkozy's remarks and added that there was no link between Iran's military self-sufficiency and posing a possible threat to other countries.

"Iran has always been a centre for peace and stability in the region and its foreign policy is within the boundaries of international rules and regulations," Hosseini concluded.
